Houston Preview

Hello Internet! It's Guido, back with a Scoring Indy race weekend preview. This week's just gonna be quick, because of the double-header nature of the weekend. I'll be posting (if everything goes right) a great deal this weekend. So, we'll conserve a little bit of energy by being brief for now. Here's how everything looked last year at Houston:

Observations

- Pagenaud, Wilson, Bourdais, and Dixon were all strong last year in both races. All four had top 10 times in the first practice session for this year's race. Coincidence? Not at all.

- If you're looking for Mike Conway to destroy worlds this weekend, I'm afraid to say you might be disappointed. It took the Destroyer two full races to figure out how to get into the top 10 in 2013, and it doesn't look like that number 20 car unloaded with a lot of speed this weekend. I'm normally bullish on Mike, but I'd sell for Houston in '14.

- If you want to impress your friends and neighbors with your ability to pick 'em. Tell them that the driver in this race, who hasn't run all season will finish at least one race in the top 10 (if not 5). Luca Fililppi is the real deal. Also, I have to rep my paisans.

- Final thought. I've got a feeling about Josef Newgarden this weekend. I don't have much of a basis for it (except perhaps the P5 in 2013 Race 1), but I expect him to run well. Very well.

Stay Tuned

Well, that's the briefest of brief previews, but I hope it whets your pallet for the races to come. Stay tuned after qualifying tomorrow for a couple of Race Predictions on Twitter to see just how much of a good feeling I have about Newgarden. You can get that and more by following me @ScoringIndy on Twitter.

See you soon!
